The Team of the Art Encounters Biennial 2019:

  • Curators: Maria Lind and Anca Rujoiu

Maria Lind is a curator, writer, and educator based in Stockholm and Berlin. She was the director of Tensta konsthall, Stockholm (2011–18), the director of the graduate program at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (2008–10), and of Iaspis in Stockholm (2005–07). From 2002 to 2004 she was the director of Kunstverein München; in 2016 she was the artistic director of the 11th Gwangju Biennale. Maria Lind is also the 2009 recipient of the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement.

Anca Rujoiu is a curator and editor based in Singapore and Timișoara. As curator of exhibitions and later head of publications (2013–18), she was a member of the founding team of the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore. She was co-curator of Collective Fictions, one of the selected projects in Nouvelles Vagues (2013), a program by Palais de Tokyo dedicated to young curators.

  • Ovidiu Șandor, Founder & President 

Art collector actively involved in the Romanian contemporary art scene, Ovidiu is a member of the Russia and Eastern Europe Acquisitions Committee from Tate Modern, London.

  • Diana Marincu, Artistic Director

Diana Marincu is a curator and art critic, member of Aica and IKT, and from 2018, as Artistic Director, she elaborates the artistic program of Art Encounters Foundation and coordinates the artistic production of the Biennial.

  • Roxana Bedrule, Program Director

Roxana Bedrule is a cultural manager and the Biennial overall coordinator.

  • Sorina Jecza, Co-founder and Institutional Relations Coordinator 

Sorina Jecza is a cultural manager and editor. Since 2000, she is the coordinator of Triade Foundation: organizing exhibitions, art in public spaces program. She edited over 200 catalogues, albums and art books published by Triade Publishing House. She is the co-founder and co-organizer of the Art Encounters Biennial. 

  • Naţca Vaszilcsin, Logistics 

Naţca is responsible for coordinating the artworks transportation and for managing logistics for the guests’ visits at the Biennial.

  • Aurora Dan (Ada), Hospitality & Events

Ada is in charge of hospitality and the artists’ research visits. She also coordinates the teams of volunteers in relation with the artists.

  • Alexandra Pintea, Communications Manager

Alexandra manages the PR activity for the Art Encounters Biennial, deals with the press and also with the social media activity.

  • Daniel Crainic, Communications Consultant 

Daniel is a contributor to the communication strategy and media relations for the Biennial. 

  • Sam Talbot, International PR

Sam is a cultural communications consultant, working internationally with leading commercial and public galleries, museums, art fairs and festivals. He is responsible for the International PR of the Art Encounters Biennial.

  • Justin O’Shaughnessy, Production Consultant

Justin O’Shaughnessy is a Producer and teacher with 30 years experience of project delivery with organisations such as Tate, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Serpentine Gallery, Frieze Art Fair, Rich Mix, Shoreditch Trust, City University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

  • Roxana Luca, Production Manager

Began as a BTL professional in 2006, Roxana has contributed to some of the biggest events in Romania and Southeastern Europe, from large music and cultural festivals, to high-capacity concerts, conferences, corporate events, film festivals, and even the visit of Pope Francis in Blaj, Romania in 2019.

Alice Voinea is behind the visual identity of the Art Encounters 2019 biennial, the printed and the outdoor & online materials, as well as of the cover of the Biennial catalog.

  • Ana Toma, Editor

Ana, the editor of the Art Encounters Biennial 2017, is a visual artist and editor, interested in graphic design, installations, photography and scenography. 

  • Andrei Infinit, Photographer

Andrei is the official photographer of Art Encounters Biennial, being present at all the events.

  • Contrasens Cultural Association, Mediation and Education

Contrasens Cultural Association www.accontrasens.ro is a nonprofit organisation funded in 2015 in Timișoara that defines art and culture as critical resources in developing an inclusive, participatory and creative society. Contrasens promotes art as a fundamental space for developing the community and the citizens and is committed to promoting contemporary culture through supporting and developing cultural mediation projects, interdisciplinary projects in the field of visual arts and publishing that document the work of contemporary artists from the region of Banat. Through mediation and education through cultural interventions, through training and mentoring of a new generation of cultural managers and professionalised cultural journalists and through research, Contrasens is engaged in experimenting in the field of contemporary art theories and practices and investing in the development of a cultural space that remains fertile for dialogue, critical thinking and debate.
