#Artists Workshops: “One Thousand and One Mornings”
A workshop for students and artists with Iulia Toma.
Location: Faculty of Arts and Design Timișoara – Attic / Textile Arts Department (Room M09)
Number of participants: 15
Participants in the workshop will work together on designing a textile fresco of oriental inspiration. The first part of the meeting will be dedicated to documenting the motifs and patterns commonly associated with the Persian rug. Participants’ attention will be then drawn towards the stylization of these oriental forms and motives, process which will continue in the second part of the meeting. We would like to build an image of the Garden of the World, an oriental carpet of new neighbors, a common imaginary landscape that brings together traditional motifs from various cultural spheres, merging stylized elements of fauna and flora. We will insist on the abstract nature of these drawings, with shapes that rather reference imagined interior structures, thus getting closer to a manner of thinking belonging to the artisan weaver and creating a connection between art and contemporary society. We will also insist on working as a team, getting as far away as possible from the individual learning system that produces competition to the detriment of the creative process. By working with simple, unicolor materials, each participant will have the same tools and the same means of expression. The workshop coordinator is only a technical facilitator. The textile fresco with abstract motifs will hopefully be completed at the end of the meeting (creation, stylization, cutting, page fitting, fixing, and so on), with the final result being tangible during the workshop.
