La Două Bufniţe Bookshop
At Two Owls Independent Bookshop went into business on the 2ndof December 2016 when two childhood friends, Oana Doboşi-Potcoavă and Raluca Selejan, decided to make a business out of their lifelong passion—books. Both, Raluca and Oana, graduates from the West University in Timişoara’s Faculty of Letters, History and Theology, strive to build a space where culture can be more conspicuous for Timişoara’s community, the local artistic scene, and for tourists. Through the book’s they decide to bring in the shop and the great number of events they organize, they’ve managed to generate a warm and friendly environment in which they intend to promote Romanian and world literature, the humanities and art. The two associates aim to bring the books closer to children, which is why they’ve built a reading area just for them. They’ve managed to give Timişoara a touch of elegance through the books they promote and the events they organize, an elegance which has spread throughout the city.
So, after a year and a half year of activity, the bookshop earned its place in the European and International Bookseller Federation, earned the ‘Poezia e la Bistriţa’ International Festival’s award for Booksellers of the Year in 2017, many interviews, print and online articles, and radio and TV appearances. Also, the bookshop won the ‘Urban Regeneration’ Prize from the Urbanist’s Association of Timişoara and managed to organize events with guest artists from Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Serbia, USA and Iceland.
